Unit Information
Unit Name: Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU)
Number of Beds: 16
Patient Ratios: 2:1 or 1:1 (occasionally 3:1 depending on acuity)
Unit Staffing Description: RNs only – no unit secretaries or patient care technicians
Type of Equipment: Ventilators, Telemetry, Baxter IV Pump, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), Impella, Hypothermia equipment
Documentation System: Cerner
Scheduling Requirements: 36 hours per week, alternating weekends, 12-hour shifts
Floating Policy: Travelers may float to all areas
Patient Experience Requirements: ICU experience required
Hiring Profile
Requested Skill Set: The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
- Titration of vesicant medications
- Familiarity with pressors, sedation, and paralytics
- Experience with ventilators and tracheostomy care
- Telemetry interpretation skills
- Understanding of hemodynamics and PA catheter setup and interpretation
- Transvenous pacing
- Cardioversion
- Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE)
- Chest tube insertion and maintenance
Advanced Skills: Desirable skills include experience with IABP, Impella, and CRRT.
Procedures Performed on Unit
- Cardioversion
- Central line insertion
- Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD)
- Bronchoscopy
- Chest tube insertion
- Pericardiocentesis
- Thoracentesis
Certifications
No certifications are required; however, Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN) certification is recommended.
Dress Code
Uniforms must be all navy or a combination of navy and white. Pullovers, hoodies, and green scrubs are not permitted except in cases of soiled uniforms.
