Unit Information
Location: Dallas, TX
Floor: 3rd floor Children’s
Number of Beds: 27
Number of Staff: 90
Patient Ratios: 1:1, 1:2, and occasionally 1:3
General Information
Our unit employs an acuity adaptive model, ensuring continuity of care for both ICU and step-down level patients. Staffing is based on patient census and acuity needs with the following structure:
- Day Shift: 2 charge nurses for each unit, 1 PCT, and RNs as needed
- Night Shift: 2 charge nurses for each unit, 1 PCT, and RNs as needed
We utilize the following equipment:
- IV Pumps (Medfusion and Baxter)
- Hillrom Beds
- HARD cribs and cribettes
- GE Radiant Warmers
- Somanetics NIRS Machines
- Servo U Ventilators
Our electronic medical record system is Meditech.
Qualifications
Required Skills:
- 1 year of Pediatric CICU or CVICU experience as a staff nurse
- 3-4 contracts in a dedicated Pediatric CICU
- Minimum of 2 years of PICU experience as a staff nurse
- Experience in caring for patients with congenital heart disease and management of postoperative CHD patients
- Proficient in managing arterial lines, central lines, and transthoracic lines
Preferred Skills:
- 2 or more years of Pediatric CICU or CVICU experience as a staff nurse
- At least 1 year of experience caring for neonatal cardiac patients (preoperative and postoperative management)
- 2 or more years of Pediatric cardiac experience in step-down or cardiology floor
Typical Procedures Performed
- Central line and arterial line placement
- Conscious sedation
- Intubation/extubation
- Postoperative recovery for general and cardiac procedures
- Sternal closures
- Codes
- ECMO cannulation and decannulation
- Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
- Manual Peritoneal Dialysis (PD)

Floating Areas
Flexible to float to PICU, NICU, pediatric med-surg, and pediatric oncology units.
Dress Code
Scrub Color: Royal Blue
Availability
Rotating weekends required (day shift on Saturday and Sunday, night shift on Friday and Saturday). No on-call duty.
