Description
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in a dynamic healthcare environment. The focus will be on providing exceptional care to patients in various stages of labor and delivery, as well as supporting postpartum care for mothers and infants.
Facility Overview
Location: Puyallup, WA
Type: Level III Trauma Center
- Licensed Beds: 375
- Unit Composition:
- 9 Labor and Delivery Rooms
- 2 OB Operating Rooms
- 2 OB PACU Beds
- 11 Level II NICU Beds
- 4 Pediatric Beds
- 20 Mother/Baby Beds
- 18 START Beds for Perinatal Addiction
- 3 OB Emergency Department Beds (20 weeks and above)
Patient Care Responsibilities
- Provide care for Level II perinatal patients (32 weeks and above).
- Manage common diagnoses including hypertension, magnesium administration, and medication management for substance abuse.
- Oversee a high volume of low-risk patients requiring intermittent fetal monitoring.
- Conduct cervical exams, administer epidurals, and perform amnio infusion as needed.
- Provide postpartum care for mothers and their infants, including support for breastfeeding and couplet care.
- Transition stable post-labor patients and their babies to the mother/baby unit.
- Attend to antepartum patients requiring extended fetal monitoring.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience required.
- Active BLS, NRP, and fetal monitoring certification (AWHONN or similar module).
- Experience with the following skills is essential:
- Cervical exams and labor assessments
- Administration of IV medications and Pitocin
- Fetal monitoring and evaluating cardiac strips
Work Environment
- Staffed by Laborists, OB/GYNs, Midwives, and Hospitalist teams available 24/7.
- Support staff includes Surgery Technicians available on weekdays and Phlebotomy services.
- NICU services are available for infants 34 weeks gestation or less.
Scheduling
- Rotating weekends with every other weekend commitment.
- Shift Options: 0700-1900 or 1900-0700.
- Holiday scheduling includes one major holiday and one minor holiday per year.
- Schedule developed in 3-week increments.
Additional Information
- Free parking provided for staff.
- Scrubs will be provided by the facility.
- Orientation includes completion of core competencies and departmental evaluations.
