Description

Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

General Information

We are seeking an experienced Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse to join our dynamic team. The facility has:

  • 10 Labor & Delivery (LD) beds
  • 4 Obstetric Emergency Department triage beds
  • 4 Antepartum rooms
  • 2 Operating Rooms (OR)
  • 20 Mother/Baby beds, with a nursery that encourages rooming in and couplet care

Minimum Experience Requirement

• A minimum of 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience or 2 years of Postpartum/GYN experience is required.

• First-time travelers are accepted.

Patient Types

The facility provides care for a diverse range of expectant mothers:

  • High-risk patients and low-intervention laboring patients
  • Patients with complications such as pre-eclampsia, hypertension, and those requiring magnesium sulfate infusions
  • Post-surgical and gynecological patients (e.g., hysterectomies, ovarian cysts)

Patient Ratios

  • Antepartum: 1:3
  • Inactive Labor: 1:2
  • Active Labor: 1:1
  • Postpartum/Couplet care: Generally 1:3 couplets; maximum of 1:4 couplets if necessary
  • NICU Feeder/Grower groups: 1:3
  • Peds: Up to 1:5

Required Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

Preferred Certifications

  • Stability assessment skills for CBC
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Certification in inpatient obstetrics
  • Electronic fetal monitoring
  • Inpatient antepartum knowledge

Role Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Caring for couplets and experiencing with GYN surgical cases
  • Providing care for patients in labor and delivery settings
  • IV starts, phlebotomy, administration of magnesium sulfate, blood administration and insulin gtts
  • Assisting with c-sections and providing recovery care
  • Conducting cervical checks and managing postpartum care
  • Floating to other units such as NICU, Pediatrics, and PICU as needed

Support and Team Structure

The unit is staffed by a comprehensive team, including:

  • Nursing Aides and IBCLC lactation nurses
  • On-site OB physician team and Anesthesia/CRNAs
  • Scrub Techs available to support nursing staff

A Clinical Resource Nurse (CRN) is also available to assist with patient care when needed.

Shift Information

  • 12-hour shifts: 0630/1830 and 1830-0630
  • Variable shifts with a requirement to work both nights and days during the contract
  • Weekend rotation: Every other weekend; could be less based on team preferences
