Description
Position Overview
The ICU Registered Nurse will provide high-quality care in a fast-paced environment, focusing on critical care management for trauma and neuro surgery patients, as well as medical cardiac patients. The position requires specialized skills and experience in caring for complex patient populations, requiring collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
Unit Information
- Type of Unit: Surgical ICU & Medical ICU
- Number of Beds: 32 beds in SICU and 36 beds in Medical ICU, with an additional 12 bed overflow unit
- Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:2 or 1:1
- Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Common Diagnoses and Patient Types
Key patient types include:
- Level 1 trauma cases
- Neurological issues including CVA and status post-TPA
- COVID-19, sepsis, and ARDS cases
- Post-surgical patients including trauma and neuro surgical cases
- Medical conditions such as sepsis, DKA, and ARDS
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized patient care plans.
- Titrate intravenous medications and manage hemodynamic monitoring as required.
- Interpret cardiac monitors and maintain competency in reading telemetry strips.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team rounds and facilitate effective communication regarding patient status.
- Document patient care activities accurately in the electronic health record.
- Provide education and support to patients and their families.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years recent ICU experience required, with at least 2 years in an ICU setting.
- Additional Skills: Experience in trauma and neuro care preferred. Ability to manage titratable drips is essential.
- Must be able to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and be flexible with unit needs, including floating between units as required.
Schedule and Orientation
- Self-scheduling is available; however, management may balance shifts based on unit needs.
- Weekend requirements include 3 weekend shifts within a 4-week schedule.
- Orientation will range from 1 to 2 days with additional departmental training as needed.
Additional Information
There may be a capacity for low census situations during the contract. No additional call or standby shifts are required for this position.
