General Information

We are seeking experienced ICU Registered Nurses (RNs) to join our team. The unit consists of a 39-bed mixed ICU, including MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU. Nurses will not float into the CVICU side unless they have experience in that unit or specialty.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience, is preferred.
• Candidates with 1.5 years of ICU experience excluding travel will be considered if they have significant RN experience outside of ICU.
• Previous travelers must have completed at least one prior travel assignment.
• Travelers must reside at least 100 miles away from any facility location.

Patient Types

The ICU serves complex patient populations, including:

• Surgical
• Medical
• Cardiac (preferred)
• Neuro
• Trauma

Diagnoses may include, but are not limited to:

• ARDS
• Myocardial Infarction (MI)
• CVA/TIA
• COVID-19
• Post-cardiac catheterization
• Post-surgical
• Multiple system trauma

Cardiac experience, particularly CABG/TAVR 24 to 48 hours post-op, is preferred but not required for travelers.

Patient Ratios

Staffing ratios are dependent on patient acuity:

• 1:1, 1:2, or occasionally 1:3 (rare)

Required Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS
• TNCC (REQUIRED)

Required Education

Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing is necessary for Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.

Skills Required

• Epic experience
• Comfortable working a 48-hour/week contract
• Experience with critical care patients
• Ability to manage IV medications, including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
• Proficient in hemodynamic line management, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry
• Strong critical thinking and assessment skills
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment

Support on the Unit

• 1-2 Nurse Aides per unit plus mobility float aide
• Registered Nurse Charge Nurse overseeing all ICUs
• Phlebotomy services for peripheral blood draws
• IV/VAT Team with ICU CRNs placing all midlines
• Resource Nurse available, staffing dependent
• Respiratory Therapy provided 24/7
• Physician support by Intensivists and Advanced Practice Providers

Charting System

Epic experience is required for this position.

Floating Policy

Floating is not common unless staffing levels are reduced. RNs may float to any adult floor, including Medsurg/Tele, with a 1:4 ratio. Comfortability with floating should be confirmed during the interview process.

Orientation

The orientation consists of the following:

• 1 full day (8 hours) for department orientation and iLearns
• 2 shifts (12 hours each) for floor orientation
• 1 additional independent 12-hour shift for 48-hour contract travelers to meet required hours

Scheduling Expectations

• Weekend rotation is typically every other weekend but is not guaranteed.
• No requests for time off
