General Information
Location: Puyallup, WA
Level: III Trauma Center
Licensed Beds: 375
Emergency Department Beds: 46 (including 5 Safe Psychiatric rooms)
Average Patients Per Day: 200
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of Emergency Department experience
- First-time travelers are welcome
Patient Types
- Pediatrics to geriatrics
- Trauma, GSW, sepsis, COVID-19
- STEMI (large volume), stroke, DKA
- Mental health issues
- Respiratory issues
- Geriatric population (falls, STEMI)
- Adult psychiatric patients
Patient Ratios
During the day: 1 RN to 4-5 patients (may flex to 5 based on acuity and staffing)
Required Certifications
- BLS
- ACLS
- PALS
- TNCC
- NIHSS
- CPI/MOAB
Skills Required
- General Emergency Department experience including:
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation
- IV skills
- Basic knowledge of drips and medication administration
- Procedural sedation and blood administration
- Preferred experience with TNK and cardiac medications
- Recent EPIC experience is required
Support on the Unit
- Emergency Room technicians for glucose checks and iStat
- 24/7 Resource/Float Nurse support
- Charge nurse rarely takes assignment
- ED Educator present
- Increased security for safety 24/7 assigned to the Emergency Department
- House Supervisor available 24/7
- Social Work Services available 24/7
- Pharmacy available 24/7 for medication support
Charting System and Equipment
- EPIC (recent experience required)
- Alaris
- Pyxis
- Central and bedside telemetry monitoring available
Orientation
Orientation schedule includes:
- Day 1: New Employee Orientation, EPIC training (if needed), introduction to educational staff
- Day 2: 12-hour shift with a preceptor on the assigned shift
Traveler Telemetry Competency
Completion and passing of the required competency exam prior to starting is mandatory.
Shifts and Scheduling
- Possible 48-hour contracts available
- Shifts available:
- Days/Mids: 0700, 1100
- Mids/Nights: 1500, 1900
- Scheduling needs are accommodated where possible
- Weekends may vary depending on unit needs
- Schedule provided 3 weeks in advance, 10 days prior to beginning
Holiday Expectations
Expected to work 2 of 5 major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day.
