Description
General Information
We are seeking a dedicated Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. The facility provides comprehensive maternity services, including a labor and delivery unit with 10 labor/delivery beds, 4 OB triage beds, and 4 antepartum rooms. The Mother/Baby unit consists of 20 beds, with an emphasis on couplet care and parent rooming-in.
Minimum Experience Requirements
- 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience OR
- 2 years of Postpartum/GYN experience
Patient Types
Our facility cares for a diverse range of pregnant patients, including those requiring high-risk management due to complications such as pre-eclampsia, hypertension, and magnesium sulfate infusions. We also accommodate low-intervention laboring patients and postpartum mothers with infants.
Unit Patient Ratios
- Antepartum: 1:3
- Inactive Labor: 1:2
- Active Labor: 1:1
- Postpartum/Couplet care: Generally 1:3 couplets, may flex to a maximum of 1:4
- NICU feeder/grower groups: 1:3
- Pediatrics: Up to 1:5
Required Certifications and Skills
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Stable, CBC preferred
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
- Certification in inpatient obstetrics
- Electronic fetal monitoring or inpatient antepartum experience preferred
Responsibilities
The Labor and Delivery RN will be responsible for:
- Providing couplet care and support for mothers and their newborns.
- Caring for patients with gynecological surgical needs.
- Administering medications and IV therapies, including magnesium sulfate and insulin drips.
- Performing nursing procedures such as cervical checks and circulating for C-sections.
- Supporting NICU standards for infants requiring specialized care.
- Floating to various units such as NICU, Pediatrics, or PICU as needed.
Orientation and Support
Comprehensive orientation will be provided, along with ongoing support from a dedicated clinical resource nurse available to assist RN staff. The unit utilizes the EPIC charting system for efficient documentation.
Shift Information
- 12-hour shifts, rotating between days and nights (0630-1830, 1830-0630).
- Weekend rotation: Every other weekend; may be adjusted based on preferences.
- Holidays: May be required as needed.
