Unit Information
- 9 Labor and Delivery Rooms (LDR)
- 2 Operating Rooms (OB OR)
- 2 Post-Anesthesia Care Units (OB PACU)
- 11 Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) beds
- 4 Pediatric beds
- 20 bed Mother/Baby unit
- 18 bed START unit for Perinatal Addiction
- 3 Obstetric Emergency Department beds (20 weeks gestation and above)
Position Overview
This position involves providing care in a Level II Perinatal Center for patients 32 weeks and above. The role requires managing various patient types, including those with hypertension, magnesium administration, and medication management for substance abuse.
Patient Care Responsibilities
- Perform cervical examinations
- Administer antepartum and labor care, including amnio infusion and epidurals
- Monitor fetal heart rates and manage IVs
- Initiate and administer Pitocin as needed
- Provide post-partum care for mothers and newborns beyond the transition period for the next 24 hours
- Support breastfeeding initiatives
- Ensure couplet care for stable mothers and babies
Patient Ratios
- 1:1 ratio for active labor
- 1:2 ratio for non-active laboring patients
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in Labor and Delivery
- Required licenses and certifications: BLS, NRP, fetal monitoring certification (AWHONN or Relias module)
- Strong assessment skills and LD experience are essential
- Familiarity with EMR systems (EPIC Stork, GE Centricity) and medication dispensing systems (Pyxis) is required
Support Within the Department
This unit does not utilize CNAs, but Surgery Technologists are available Monday to Friday during the day shift. Phlebotomy services are accessible, and Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7 for high-risk deliveries.
Orientation and Scheduling
- Orientation includes core competencies such as HIPAA and OSHA regulations, medication examinations, and unit competency evaluations.
- Weekend rotation is required every other weekend.
- Shifts are scheduled in 3-week increments, with rotation between 0700-1900 and 1900-0700.
- Holidays: one major and one minor holiday commitment is expected.
Additional Information
Free parking is provided, and scrub colors are supplied. The role involves floating between LD and Mother/Baby as necessary, only to areas where competencies are confirmed.
