Description
General Information
Location: Puyallup, WA
Facility Type: Level III Trauma Center
Licensed Beds: 375 (46 emergency department beds including 5 Safe Psych rooms)
Average Patient Volume: 200 patients per day
Role Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care in a fast-paced emergency department setting.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care for a diverse patient population ranging from pediatric to geriatric.
- Manage high acuity medical emergencies, including trauma, respiratory issues, cardiovascular events, and mental health crises.
- Administer medications and IV fluids in accordance with protocols, including blood products and sedation.
- Monitor cardiac rhythms and perform routine diagnostic tests as required.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including social work and pharmacy, to ensure optimal patient care.
- Utilize EPIC for documentation and coordinate care effectively within the unit.
Patient Types
Experience with patients suffering from:
- Trauma and gunshot wounds
- Sepsis, COVID-19, and other infectious diseases
- STEMI and stroke interventions
- Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and respiratory issues
- Behavioral health emergencies across age groups
Staffing and Support
- Patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:4-5, with flexibility based on staffing and acuity.
- Support staff includes emergency room technicians and nursing educators available around the clock.
- Dedicated mental health resources and security personnel on-site 24/7.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of emergency department nursing experience.
- Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS, CPI/MOAB.
- Demonstrated proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV therapy, and medication administration.
- Recent experience with the EPIC charting system is essential.
Orientation and Competency
New hires will undergo a structured orientation that includes:
- Introduction to the facility, policies, and procedures.
- Training on the EPIC system and mental health protocols.
- Hands-on training with a preceptor during a 12-hour shift.
- Completion of Traveler Telemetry Competency prior to start.
Scheduling and Availability
Shifts may vary based on unit needs, with a schedule provided three weeks in advance. Weekend availability and holiday coverage are expected, with time off requests subject to managerial approval.
