Position Summary

This position is responsible for functioning as both a caregiver and care manager. In the caregiver role, the Registered Nurse assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame while implementing the Nursing Process. As a care manager, the RN directs and oversees the work of other caregivers through delegation, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of patient care outcomes. This individual must fully understand the purpose and operation of Patient Care Services and possess the ability to make sound decisions when situations dictate.

Essential Functions

• Conducts assessments and collects data, focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, and cognitive status.
• Implements care skillfully and consistently in accordance with established procedures, policies, and care plans.
• Identifies patient and significant other learning needs and readiness for learning, providing teaching as defined by policy and care plans.
• Documents patient interactions accurately via electronic medical records or paper processes as per policy and regulatory requirements.
• Demonstrates sensitivity to patient and family rights, regardless of race, age, religion, gender, or any classification protected by law.
• Delegates patient care activities effectively and supervises assigned colleagues as necessary.
• Utilizes critical thinking for effective organization and priority setting.
• Adheres to lines of authority and may serve as a Charge Nurse, assisting with admissions, discharges, and staff coordination.
• Maintains professional growth and development through continued education and professional affiliations.
• Complies with safety requirements, including infection control and equipment handling.
• Ensures compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
• Maintains courteous and efficient interface with team members and other support groups.
• Presents a professional demeanor and adheres to appearance standards.
• Handles additional responsibilities as required to meet organizational standards.

Work Environment

This position reports to the Nursing Department Director, House Supervisor, Charge Nurse, and other designated supervisory staff. The RN works closely with patients, physicians, and other clinicians to ensure optimal patient care and outcomes.

Education & Experience

• Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
• License: Current Washington State RN Licensure.
• Certification: HCP Level of BLS within 30 days of hire (AHA or equivalent).
• Experience: Experience as an acute care registered nurse preferred; minimum one year of RN experience preferred for specialty nursing departments.
• Skills/Competencies:
  • Ability to perform primary RN functions including assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care.
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Accountability in practice within legal and ethical guidelines.
  • Crisis management abilities.
  • Competency in caring for patients across the age continuum.
  • Competency with department-specific equipment.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, and pushing/pulling.
• Ability to lift/carry supplies and equipment up to 30 lbs.
• Physical strength to perform CPR and manage patient care effectively.
• Keen mental faculties for assessment and decision-making.
• Good visual acuity for patient assessment and documentation.
• Emotional stability to handle high-stress situations and maintain effective relationships.
• Effective communication skills for accurate information exchange.

Intensive Care Unit Requirements

• ACLS certification to be obtained within 6 months of hire; renewed every 2 years.
• PALS certification to be obtained within 12 months of hire; renewed every 2 years.
• TNCC certification to be obtained within 12 months of hire; renewed every 4 years.
• PEARS certification to be obtained within 12 months of hire; renewed every 2 years.
• Moderate sedation training to be completed within
