Description
General Information
This position is for a Registered Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The NICU is equipped with 108 beds and provides critical care for newborns. Nurses will operate within a dynamic environment where the patient-to-nurse ratio ranges from 1:1 to 1:4.
Unit Specifics
- Number of Beds: 108
- Patient Ratios: 1:1 – 1:4
- Unit Staffing: Staffed with RNs, LVNs, PCTs, and Nurse Externs
- Type of Equipment: Nasal Cannula, Bubble CPAP, Vents, Oscillators, IV pumps, NIRS, Warmers, Isolettes
- Documentation System: CPN, Meditech
- Scheduling Requirements: 3-12 hour shifts per week, rotating weekends and holidays
- Floating Policy: Contract staff float before permanent staff to areas including PICU, Pediatrics, and CICU, caring for patients under 2 years old.
Qualifications
All applicants must have at least 1 year of experience in a Level III NICU. Additionally, the following qualifications are preferred:
- Experience with surgical and cardiac patients
- Experience caring for infants less than 27 weeks gestational age
- Experience with tracheostomy infants
- Management of central lines and respiratory management, including care of intubated patients
Advanced Skills Needed
- Central line insertions
- Circumcisions
- Exploratory laparotomies
- Gastroschisis reductions
- PDA ligations
Certifications Required
Successful candidates must have the following certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
Dress Code
Required uniform is royal blue scrubs.
