Description
General Information
This position involves working in a mixed unit that includes MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU with a total of 39 beds. Travelers are expected to have a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience. A minimum of 1.5 years of ICU experience may be considered for candidates with significant RN experience outside of ICU.

Patient Types
Qualified candidates will work with complex ICU patients, including but not limited to:
- Surgical patients
- Medical patients
- Cardiac patients (preferred)
- Neuro patients
- Trauma patients
Common diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac catheterization, post-surgical recovery, and heavy trauma cases.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience (travel experience excluded preferred).
- Certification Requirements:
- BLS
- ACLS
- NIHSS
- TNCC (required)
- Completion of a nursing education program approved by a Board of Nursing.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license from the appropriate state board.
- Epic experience preferred.
Skills Required
- Experience with IV medications, including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics.
- Proficiency in managing hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry.
- Strong critical thinking and assessment skills.
- Able to work effectively in a team setting and in a fast-paced critical care environment.
- Experience with devices such as Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred.
Unit Details
- Patient Ratios: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 (rare), based on patient acuity.
- Support on the Unit:
- CNA: 1-2 Nurse Aides per unit + mobility float aide.
- Charge nurse: 2 CRNs overseeing all ICUs.
- RT: Available 24/7.
- Resource Nurse: Available based on staffing needs.
- Phlebotomy: Yes, peripheral blood draws only.
- IV/VAT Team: ICU CRNs responsible for midline placements.
Orientation and Scheduling
- Orientation:
- 1-day hospital orientation (8 hours).
- 1-day department orientation (4 hours).
- 2 shifts (12 hours each) of floor orientation.
- 1 additional 12-hour independent shift for travelers meeting required hours.
- Weekend Rotation: Efforts made for every other weekend; not guaranteed.
- Holidays: No requests for time off during holidays. Additional time off requests should accommodate a full 13-week contract.
- No time off during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks in August).
Other Notes
- Travelers must reside over 100 miles from any facility.
- Expected to precept students as needed.
- Scrub color: Navy.
