Description
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in the Intermediate Care Unit. This is a high-acuity stepdown unit focused on providing optimal care for patients transitioning from critical care.
Unit Information
- Number of Beds: 19
- Staffing: 7 RNs
- Patient Ratios: 3:1
- Type of Equipment: Bedside monitors, Alaris IV pumps, heated humidity high flow O2, BiPap, chest tubes, tracheostomy, kangaroo feeding pumps, gastric tubes, surgical drains
- EMR: EPIC
Key Responsibilities
- Perform thorough physical assessments, including intake and output every four hours.
- Conduct hourly safety rounds to ensure patient well-being.
- Assist with positioning and activities of daily living (ADLs) every two hours as indicated.
- Facilitate bedside handoffs to maintain continuity of care.
- Manage emergent cardioversion procedures as necessary.
Qualifications
- Required Experience:
- 1 year of step-down ICU/Intermediate Care/Progressive Care experience.
- 1 year of telemetry/cardiac monitoring experience.
- Preferred Experience:
- Experience with tracheostomy patients requiring continuous BiPap or long-term ventilation support.
- Experience administering titratable drips such as dopamine, dobutamine, nitro, cardene, ketamine, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone.
- Experience with CIWA assessments and alcohol/drug withdrawal treatment.
Required Certifications
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIH-SS)
Work Environment
The ideal candidate will be positive, team-focused, and adaptable to rapidly changing patient acuity levels. You should thrive in a busy, fast-paced environment and be prepared to manage high patient throughput, including rapid responses to emergencies, ED admissions, and ICU transfers.
Schedule
- Night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM.
- Every other weekend shift required (totaling four weekend shifts per month).
Dress Code
Navy blue scrubs are the designated attire for this unit.
Floating Areas
Possible rotation to cardiac surgery IMC, medical-telemetry, medical-surgical, and ortho-neuro units as needed.
