Position Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) position in this stepdown unit offers an exciting opportunity to work with a variety of patients, primarily adults and geriatrics. The focus is on delivering high-quality care to individuals with cardiac-related issues and other complex medical conditions.

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Stepdown
• # of Beds: 32
• Nurse:Patient Ratios: 1:4-5, occasionally 5-6 on nights, with PCU level care overflow at 1:3

Common Diagnoses

• Cardiac catheterizations
• Electrophysiology studies
• Pacing interventions
• Alcohol withdrawal (ETOH)
• COVID-19 related cases requiring BiPAP
• General surgical cases with cardiac histories
• Medical patients with chronic conditions such as pneumonia, influenza, and sepsis

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a similar role with PCU experience
• Certifications Required: ACLS, BLS
• Skills: Ability to read cardiac strips and manage titratable drips (e.g., Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix)
• Technical Skills: Experience with Epic electronic health record system preferred

Shift Details

• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirements: Every other holiday
• Floating Requirements: May be required to float across different areas, including helping hands in PCU and MS units, as well as potential ER holds or boarding

Additional Information

• Support Staff: Nurse aides/patient care technicians are available with a ratio of 1:10
• Orientation: 2 shifts of department-specific orientation (12-hour shifts)
• Dress Code: Any color scrubs are acceptable; scrubs not provided
