Job Description

The neurosurgical unit provides exceptional opportunities to care for a diverse patient population. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams specializing in brain tumors, spinal malformations, neuroendovascular, and epilepsy surgery. This mixed-acuity unit includes both floor-level and an 8-bed high-acuity step-down unit for patients with complex needs requiring hemodynamic and neurological monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care to patients on a mixed-acuity neurosurgical unit.
• Monitor patients with complex medical needs, performing Q1 neuro checks as required.
• Manage and care for patients with external ventricular drains (EVDs), lumbar drains, and subdural drains.
• Administer intravenous solutions such as 3% NS and manage Cardene drips, arterial lines, and postoperative care for carotid endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling/clipping, and DBS insertions.
• Oversee and support patients with VP shunts and those experiencing seizures.

Qualifications

• Must have step-down or progressive care unit (PCU) experience.
• BLS certification required.
• Experience in high acuity stroke and neurosurgery is essential.
• Telemetry experience is required.
• Current RN License (New York only).
• A minimum of two years of clinical experience is mandatory.
• ACLS certification is preferred.
• NIHSS certification is required.
