About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic team. The selected candidate will provide comprehensive care to mothers and newborns, ensuring a safe and supportive environment during labor, delivery, and postpartum stages.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care during active and non-active labor, performing cervical exams and monitoring fetal health.
• Perform antepartum care, managing high-risk patients and those requiring continuous monitoring.
• Administer medications, including IVs and Pitocin, as per protocols.
• Assist in deliveries and C-sections, ensuring readiness for various patient needs.
• Support postpartum care, including breastfeeding education and couplet care for stable mother-baby pairs.
• Utilize technology such as EMR systems (EPIC Stork, GE Centricity) and medication dispensing (Pyxis).

Patient Population

The unit cares for a diverse range of patients, including those with hypertension, substance use disorders, and low-risk pregnancies, with approximately 175-200 deliveries each month.

Patient Ratios

• 1:1 ratio for active labor patients.
• 1:2 ratio for non-active laboring patients.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience required.
• Current certifications in BLS, NRP, and fetal monitoring (AWHONN or equivalent).
• Strong skills in labor support, cervical exams, epidural management, and fetal monitoring.
• Experience in postpartum care and couplet care preferred.

Support and Resources

The unit offers various support, including:

• 24/7 availability of Laborists (OBGYN).
• Access to a Hospitalist and NICU team for high-risk situations.
• Telemetry monitoring and respiratory therapy support available continuously.

Shared Scheduling

The position requires availability for rotating weekends and holidays, with a schedule made in three-week increments. Shifts are available as either daytime (0700-1900) or nighttime (1900-0700).

Orientation and Training

Comprehensive orientation will be provided, including unit-specific competencies and annual core competencies such as HIPAA and OSHA training.

Additional Information

This role does not require on-call duties. The selected candidate will only float to areas where they are competent, typically between Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby units.
