Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team at a community hospital located in Spokane Valley, WA. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills and a commitment to providing quality care to our diverse patient population, including adults, geriatrics, and occasionally pediatrics.

Patient Types

The Respiratory Therapist will work with patients in various settings including medical-surgical, critical care, emergency, and COVID care. Most patients will be adults or geriatrics, with the possibility of treating pediatric and infant patients (requires Bubble CPAP; transfers to NICU if used for extended periods).

Patient Ratios

Patient assignments will vary based on census and acuity, utilizing a points system acuity tool for determining assignments.

Required Licensure & Certifications

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Skills Required

Candidates should have foundational respiratory therapy skills and critical care experience. Familiarity with ventilators, BiPAP, HFNC, and other respiratory equipment/accessories is essential. Experience in the nursery is beneficial but not mandatory if the applicant holds NRP certification.

Support on the Unit

The Respiratory Therapist will have access to support from an RT manager and team lead.

• Electronic Medical Record (EMR): EPIC (required)
• Ventilator: Getinge Servo-u
• Medication Dispensing: Pyxis

Floating

The Respiratory Therapist may work across all departments as needed. Assignments will be area-specific, and staff will not float to other facilities.

Orientation

The orientation process includes one day of hospital orientation followed by 2-3 precepted shifts, determined by the manager based on the new hire's comfort level with responsibilities.

Scheduling

• Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend required
• Holidays: Dependent on unit needs
• Release of Schedule: 6 weeks in advance
• Time Off Requests: Subject to manager approval
