Qualifications

• Minimum of 18 months experience in MedSurg and/or ICU
• EPIC or Cerner experience required; Cerner required for strict ICU experience
• First-time travelers are welcome
• Staff must be away for 6 months before returning as travelers

Patient Care Overview

Assigned units will have a patient ratio of 1:4-6, typically at 1:4, focusing on providing high-quality care with lower patient loads. Responsibilities may include:

• Assisting with patient care, including turning, baths, and activities of daily living (ADLs)
• Managing medication administration and documentation

6 North Trauma Surgical

• Beds: 23
• Patient Types: General Surgery and Vascular surgeries
• Skills Required: Trauma/surgical experience, wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills

5 South Neuroscience

• Beds: 33
• Patient Types: CVA, TBI, Seizure, Spinal Fusion, Craniotomy, Degenerative Diseases
• Skills Required: IV starts, central line blood draws, trach care, PEG, NGT, ostomy care

5 North MedSurg/Oncology

• Beds: 39
• Preferred: Chemo experience
• Patient Types: All except stroke and MI, MS/Oncology patients
• Skills Required: Trach care, chest tubes, PEG tubes, wound care, IV starts

3 South Orthopedics

• Beds: 20
• Patient Types: Orthopedic and spine surgeries
• Skills Required: PCA pumps, wound care, foleys, drains

3 North MS/Ortho/Urology

• Beds: 23
• Patient Types: Urology, ENT, ortho, MedSurg
• Skills Required: Trach, wound care, IV starts

Support and Technology

• CNA support with a ratio of 1:10-12 for VS, ADLs, glucose checks
• Availability of Phlebotomy and IV/VAT Team
• EMR: Cerner; EPIC experience considered
• Medication dispensing: Omnicell; IV pumps: Plum 360

Orientation

Travelers who are new to the facility or return travelers with an absence of 1 year will undergo:

• 24 hours of classroom time
• 24 hours on the unit

Scheduling

Shifts are typically from 7 AM to 7 PM or 7 PM to 7 AM. Scheduling details include:

• Weekend rotation: Every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month
• Holiday Expectations: One major and one minor holiday per year
• Approval of time off within specified limits
