General Information

We are seeking a dedicated ICU Registered Nurse (RN) to join our mixed unit, which encompasses the MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU. This position requires a strong clinical background with a focus on complex ICU patients.

Patient Types

• Complex ICU patients including surgical, medical, cardiac (preferred), neuro, and trauma cases.
• Common diagnoses: ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac catheterization, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma.
• Cardiac experience is preferred but not mandatory.

Patient Ratios

Patient-to-nurse ratios will typically be 1:1, with occasional assignments of 1:2 or 1:3, depending on patient acuity.

Required Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS
• TNCC (REQUIRED) - Candidates must be willing to obtain this certification prior to arrival.

Required Education

Candidates must have completed a nursing education program that is approved by a Board of Nursing and possess a current Registered Nurse (RN) license.

Skills Required

• Experience with the Epic charting system.
• Familiarity with IV medications, including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics.
• Proficiency in hemodynamic monitoring, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry.
• Strong critical thinking and assessment skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with critically ill patients.
• Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT is strongly preferred.
• Qualifications to float to ED and PCU are a plus.
• Travelers are encouraged to share experiences where they exceeded expectations in prior roles.

Support on the Unit

• Availability of 1-2 Nurse Aides per unit, plus a mobility float aide.
• Two Charge Registered Nurses will oversee all ICUs.
• Phlebotomy services are available for peripheral blood draws only.
• ICU CRNs will place all midlines with support from the IV/VAT Team.
• A Resource Nurse will be present, dependent on staffing levels.
• Respiratory Therapy services are available 24/7.
• Access to three Intensivists during the day, with two available at night, along with an APP on night shifts.

Orientation

• Initial hospital orientation.
• One 8-hour departmental orientation period, plus a 4-hour session to complete iLearns.
• Two 12-hour shifts of floor orientation, followed by one additional independent 12-hour shift for travelers.

Scheduling

• Weekend rotations are typically every other weekend, although this is not guaranteed.
• Requests for time off during holidays are not permitted.
• Approval for time off for up to 7 days is available, provided it accommodates a full 13-week contract. There are no requests for time off during the Sturgis Bike Rally in August.

• Opportunities may arise for precepting nursing students.
• Scrub color is navy.
