```html ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

General Information

This position involves floating within the facility across various units, including ICUs, PCUs, CCUs, and ED holding. Candidates must possess a minimum of one year of ICU experience. Strong ICU and previous float pool experience will also be considered for first-time travelers.

Patient Types Expected to Care For

  • Covid Patients
  • Neuro, Trauma, Medical, Surgical Patients
  • Sepsis, pneumonia, DKA, DTs, Multi-system failure, spinal injuries
  • Pre/post catheterization patients (radial approach)
  • General surgery patients, respiratory compromise, CHF, COPD
  • Gunshot wounds, stabbings, motor vehicle accidents, strokes, TBI
  • Various back surgeries

CVICU Responsibilities

  • Post-operative CABG (10 per week), Esophagectomy, TAVR (3 per week)
  • AAA repair, thoracic and vascular surgeries, post-arrest care

Patient Ratios

  • ICU: 1:2
  • PCU/ACC/CCU: 1:4
  • ER Holding: Ratio based on patient’s level of care

Certifications Required

  • ACLS
  • BLS
  • NIHSS

Required Skills

  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Ventilator and BiPAP management
  • Invasive line management
  • Ostomy care
  • Management of general drains, tracheostomy care, chest tubes, lumbar drains
  • IV medication titration

Support on the Unit

  • Charge Nurse
  • Hospitalist, Respiratory Therapist, and Intensivist available 24/7
  • Cardiologist on call 24/7 for CVICU & CCU

Charting System

Experience with the Epic charting system is required.

Scheduling Information

Schedules are typically created three weeks in advance and are distributed 7-10 days prior. Every other weekend is required, with the possibility of back-to-back weekends (though this is rare). Self-scheduling is not available, and there are no guarantees for a patterned schedule. Any time off exceeding five days requires manager approval.

Floating Responsibilities

You may be required to float between the following units:

  • Neuro/Trauma/Medical/Cardiac ICU
  • CCU (Cardiac Step Down)
  • PCU/ACC
  • ED Holding
  • Med Surg Units
  • Any open surge areas for the above units

Travelers may occasionally float to other locations within the region, including Allenmore, located approximately 2.5 miles away. Notification will be provided in advance if needed.

Orientation

  • 1-day general hospital orientation
  • 1-day of unit orientation (12 hours) on the ICU unit
  • 1-day of 12 hours on similar units

Competency Requirements

Completion and passing of Traveler Telemetry Competency is required prior to starting. Compliance is the responsibility of SimpliFi for grading this exam.

Additional Notes

  • Scrubs: Any color, professional attire is required.
  • Free parking is available within designated areas.
  • Staff must fill out whiteboards, perform and document hourly rounding, and provide bedside reports.
  • Saline flushes are considered medications and should not be left at the bedside or in scrub pockets.
