Job Description
Join a dedicated healthcare team as a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This unit is designed to provide individualized care to patients with complex medical conditions requiring intermediate care.
Unit Details
- Number of Beds: 29
- Patient Ratios: 4:1
- Unit Staffing: Includes a dayshift unit secretary and 2-3 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) based on census. Nightshift consists of 2-3 PCTs depending on census.
- Type of Equipment: Welch Allyn dynamaps, Phillips telemetry, Phillips MP2, Pyxis, Alaris pumps, Hill-Rom beds, iMobile devices, MobiLab.
- Documentation System: Meditech.
- Scheduling Requirements: Includes 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule with self-scheduling options. Requests for days off are permitted before schedule closing, finalized 2 weeks in advance. Block scheduling for night shift is available.
- Floating Policy: Travel RNs float first, with the oldest float date taking priority.
- Patient Experience Requirements: The PCU primarily serves a cardiac patient population, including post-operative cardiac patients from the ICU.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive head-to-toe assessments every 6 hours and document findings thoroughly.
- Administer medications and IV therapy, including titration of various medications such as Dopamine, Dobutrex, Nitro, Heparin, and others.
- Manage complex patient conditions, including stroke, myocardial infarction, heart failure, and respiratory failure.
- Perform essential procedures such as Foley placement, IV insertion, EKGs, and patient mobility assistance.
Qualifications
- Required Experience: Cardiac/telemetry, as well as PCU or critical care experience.
- Advanced Skills Needed: IV insertion, chest tube management, tracheostomy care, CVC management, EKG interpretation, and early patient mobility.
- Certifications: BLS and ACLS required.
Dress Code
Required uniform: Navy scrubs.
