Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA)

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and trained Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) to join our team. The RNFA collaborates closely with the surgeon and healthcare team to ensure safe and effective surgical procedures, contributing to optimal patient outcomes. This position also requires proficiency in perioperative nursing practices and the ability to perform OR staff RN duties when not assigned to the RNFA role.

Work Schedule

• 36 or 48 hours per week
• Monday to Friday day shifts
• On-call responsibilities until 11 PM as needed
• No weekends or holidays required, based on unit needs

Key Responsibilities

• Supports the surgeon during surgical procedures, practicing in a collaborative environment.
• Implements perioperative nursing practices, ensuring patient safety and optimal outcomes.
• Performs duties of operating room staff RN when not engaged in RNFA role.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse License in New York State (NYS).
• Completion of an accredited RN First Assistant course.
• Certification: CNOR required.
• Robotic surgery experience preferred in the following areas:
• Robotic Urology
• Robotic Gynecology
• Robotic Colorectal Surgery
• Robotic Surgical Oncology (including Whipple procedures, gastrectomies, and hernias)
• Robotic Thoracic Surgery
• Robotic General Surgery (gallbladders, appendectomies)
• Minimum of two years’ experience in an operating room; experience in a Level 1 trauma center is preferred.

Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association required.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification preferred from the American Heart Association.
