Unit Overview

• Number of Beds: 9 Labor & Delivery, 3 swing rooms, 2 ORs, and 3 bed OBED
• Patient Ratios: 1:2
• Unit Staffing: Includes a Unit Secretary and scrub tech, dedicated CRNA & midwife in-house 24/7, OBGYN on call
• Documentation System: CPN and Meditech
• Scheduling Requirements: 4 weekend shifts per month
• Floating Policy: Floating may be required to maternity/birthing unit or outside department to assist
• Patient Experience Metrics: Maintain patient satisfaction above 75%

Qualifications

• Required Certifications: RN, ACLS, BLS, NRP, Fetal monitoring
• Required Experience: Minimum of 2 years in Labor & Delivery
• Requested Skill Set: Commitment to providing high-quality care for laboring patients and support for patient choice and preferences for vaginal births.
• Advanced Skills Preferred: Familiarity with Spinning Babies techniques and STABLE.

Unit Procedures

• Circulating in OR
• IUPC and FSE monitoring
• Administration of Magnesium Sulfate
• Management of postpartum hemorrhage using the JADA system
• Use of nitrous oxide during labor

Dress Code

Uniform consists of hot pink and black, with an emphasis on hot pink tops and black bottoms preferred.

Additional Information

The unit utilizes a laborist team model with 24/7 midwife coverage, dedicated CRNA, and OB on call. We strive to personalize birth experiences according to individual patient preferences and needs. Our postpartum unit promotes couplet care, allowing newborns to stay at the bedside, enhancing breastfeeding support with donor milk availability as needed. The unit also includes an 8-bed Level 2 NICU with a dedicated NNP available 24/7 to assist with high-risk deliveries as necessary.
