Job Overview

The Emergency Room Nurse plays a critical role in providing effective and compassionate care to patients in a high-paced emergency department. The ideal candidate will demonstrate teamwork, flexibility, and a commitment to patient experience and safety.

Unit Information

• Number of Beds: 101
• Patient Ratios: Typically 4:1; behavioral holds may go up to 7:1
• Documentation System: Cerner
• Support Staff: Technicians and unit clerks available for assistance

Responsibilities

• Deliver nursing care to patients in the emergency department, adhering to standard protocols and safety procedures.
• Maintain patient experience standards through effective communication and the use of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You).
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to manage emergencies and coordinate care.
• Perform routine assessments and documentation in the Electronic Health Record system.
• Support diverse patient populations and ensure respectful behavior during interactions.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years nursing experience, including at least 1 year in an emergency department setting.
• Must possess certifications in ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, CPI, and NIHSS by hire date. ENPC within 90 days of hire.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a Level II trauma center and comprehensive stroke center.
• Flexible to work in all areas within the emergency department and assist with various procedures as needed.

Dress Code

Required uniform: Navy scrubs.
