Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) for the Medical-Surgical unit is responsible for providing high-quality patient care in a dynamic and collaborative environment. The RN will be a vital part of a close-knit team dedicated to patient recovery and comfort.

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Medical Surgical
• Number of Beds: 30
• Nurse to Patient Ratios:
  • Days: 1:4-5
  • Nights: 1:5-6
• Common Diagnoses/Patient Types:
  • Total joint replacement
  • Spinal surgery
  • Urology procedures
  • Abdominal surgeries (laparoscopic appendectomy, bowel resection)
  • Bariatrics
  • Medical overflow
  • Hemovacs and JP drains
  • Colostomies

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive and compassionate nursing care to patients in the Medical Surgical unit.
• Participate in the early ambulation of post-operative patients.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Document patient care and assessments accurately and timely.
• Adhere to safety and quality standards in care delivery.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience preferred, with a focus on surgical and post-operative care.
• Certifications: Current BLS certification required.
• Skills:
  • Experience in managing patient care associated with various surgical procedures.
  • Ability to float to different units as required, including medical and telemetry.

Work Schedule

• Shift: Night shifts, with a shift length of 12 hours.
• Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend.
• Holiday Requirement: As needed.

Additional Information

• Bedside shift report is an expectation.
• Responsibilities may include managing occasional heparin drips, PCA pumps, and TPN.
• Patient care technicians available with a ratio of 1:12.
