Unit Information

Location: Asheville, NC

Unit: E5 Cardiac Step-Down

General Information:

• Number of Beds: 40
• Staffing:
  • Day Shift: 1 Charge Nurse, 10 staff bedside nurses, 4 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), 1 Unit Secretary
  • Night Shift: 1 Charge Nurse, 10 staff bedside nurses, 3 PCTs
• Patient Ratios: 1:4, with stretch staffing at 1:5 ratio
• Patient Types: Patients with Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Myocardial Infarction (MI), Chest Pain (CP), arrhythmias, Pulmonary Hypertension, valvular disease, endocarditis, Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), as well as post-cardiac catheterization, stent, pacemaker/ICD, and ablation patients.
• Equipment: Zoll, Baxter pump, lift equipment, bladder scanner
• Electronic Medical Records (EMR): Cerner

Qualifications

Required Skills: Candidates without these skills will not be considered.

• Experience in stepdown or progressive care
• Telemetry experience
• Experience with titratable or cardiac IV medications such as nitroglycerin, Cardizem, amiodarone, dopamine, dobutamine, insulin drip, heparin, bumetanide/Lasix, etc.

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with these skills will be prioritized.

• Experience with prostacyclins (Flolan, Veletri, Remodulin)
• Relief charge experience

• Bedside Cardioversion

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Floating Areas

• All MedSurg units, Stepdown units, COVID unit, and ER holding

Dress Code

All-white or all-navy blue scrubs or white top with navy blue pants.

Availability

Weekends: Every other weekend

Experience

Minimum of 2 years nursing experience required.
