Job Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing high-quality, compassionate care to patients in a medical-surgical setting. This position includes patient assessment, care planning, medication administration, and collaboration with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Assessment and Care Planning:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' physical, emotional, and psychological health upon admission and throughout their hospital stay.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Monitor patient progress and adjust care plans based on changing conditions or responses to treatment.
- Administering Medications and Treatments:
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments accurately.
- Monitor and assess patient responses to medications and treatments.
- Perform tasks such as wound care and dressing changes as required.
- Patient Monitoring and Documentation:
- Continuously monitor patients’ vital signs and document all assessments and interventions.
- Report any changes in patient status or complications, ensuring timely interventions.
- Collaboration with Healthcare Team:
- Work collaboratively with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive patient care.
- Participate in daily rounds and provide updates on patient status to the medical team.
- Effectively communicate with patients and families regarding care plans and treatment progress.
- Patient Education:
- Educate patients and their families on managing health conditions and preparing for discharge.
- Provide guidance on post-hospital care and offer emotional support as necessary.
- Managing Postoperative Care (if applicable):
- Monitor patients recovering from surgery and provide post-operative care.
- Ensure that patients are educated on managing their recovery at home.
- Patient Safety and Infection Control:
- Ensure patient safety by following protocols for infection control and safety measures.
- Maintain a sterile environment when performing medical procedures.
- Emergency and Crisis Management:
- Recognize and respond to emergencies, such as sudden changes in patient status.
- Provide immediate care for life-threatening conditions as needed.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid state nursing license.
- Minimum of two years of experience in a medical-surgical setting is required.
- Experience with a variety of medical conditions and surgical procedures is beneficial.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong clinical knowledge and nursing skills, particularly in patient assessment and medication administration.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Ability to manage multiple patients and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to address patient concerns.
- Compassionate, patient-focused approach to nursing care.
Working Conditions
- Work occurs in hospital medical-surgical units, including acute and subacute patient care settings.
- Shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- The role involves standing, walking, lifting, and assisting patients with mobility.
