Description
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to provide inpatient-level nursing care within a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The role specifically involves caring for admitted patients who are boarding in the Emergency Department while awaiting transfer to an inpatient bed. This position supports patient safety, hospital throughput, and continuity of care during periods of high hospital census.
Scheduling Structure
- Night Shift: Scheduled from Sunday night through Thursday night.
- Day Shift: Scheduled from Monday through Friday.
- 12-hour shifts, with the potential for both weekdays and weeknights based on coverage needs.
Patient Care Responsibilities
The RN will manage a patient ratio of up to 4 patients (4:1), which may include:
- Telemetry monitoring
- IV medications
- Post-procedural care
- General inpatient medical-surgical needs
Floating Requirements
This position is exclusively for caring for admitted boarder patients located within the Emergency Department. RNs are not expected to handle regular ED patient assignments. Assignments will remain within the Emergency Department boarder care model. RNs may care for patients of varying acuity consistent with their skill set. RNs may also be required to temporarily provide care in another unit within their clinical competency and skill set if departmental or organizational needs change.
Experience Requirements
- Recent inpatient medical-surgical experience required
- Valid RN license
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Work Environment
The work setting is a fast-paced Emergency Department, providing care to admitted patients awaiting transfer to inpatient beds. Collaboration with ED physicians, hospitalists, ICU teams, and inpatient services is essential, with support staff available as per ED resources.
