Job Description
We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Emergency Department Nurse to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in emergency nursing, demonstrating the ability to provide high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment.
Patient Population
The Emergency Department serves a diverse patient population, including pediatrics through geriatrics, dealing with various medical conditions such as:
- Trauma
- Gunshot Wounds (GSW)
- Sepsis
- COVID-19
- STEMI
- Stroke
- Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
- Mental Health Issues
- Respiratory Problems
- Geriatric Care
- Adult Psychiatry
Patient Ratios
The typical nurse-to-patient ratio during the day shift is 1:4-5, with the flexibility to accommodate up to 5 based on patient acuity and staffing levels.
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- CPI/MOAB (Crisis Prevention Institute/Management of Aggressive Behavior)
Key Skills and Responsibilities
- General emergency department experience including cardiac rhythm interpretation and IV skills.
- Administer medications and drips, including procedural sedation and blood products.
- Assist with the administration of TNK (tenecteplase) and cardiac medications.
- Provide care to patients with a high acuity level, especially within the geriatric demographic.
Support on the Unit
The Emergency Department features a collaborative team environment with the following support staff:
- Emergency Room Technicians
- Resource/Float Nurse
- Registered Respiratory Therapists (available 24/7)
- Emergency Department Educator
- Security Personnel
- Social Work Services
- Pharmacy Services
Charting System
The facility utilizes the Epic charting system, and recent experience with this system is required for all applicants.
Orientation
Orientation includes a structured program to ensure a smooth transition into the team:
- Day 1: New employee orientation, badge issuance, and Epic training as needed.
- Day 2: 12-hour shift with a preceptor onsite.
Scheduling
Shifts available include:
- Day/Midis: 0700, 1100
- Mid/Nights: 1500, 1900
Schedules are provided 3 weeks in advance and adjusted based on unit needs, with a focus on accommodating requests for time off.
Other Information
Uniforms consist of any professional scrub colors, and modest piercings and tattoos that are not offensive are permitted. Free parking is available in designated areas.
