Description
Position Overview
This is a seasonal nursing opportunity in the Cardiac Telemetry unit, offering a guaranteed minimum of 48 hours per week. The expected start date for this position is November 30.
Unit Information
- Number of Beds: 29
- Patient Ratios: 1:4
- Staffing: The unit includes a Charge Nurse, Unit Secretary, and Patient Care Technicians (PCTs).
- Type of Equipment: Alaris IV pumps, SCD machines, Hill Rom beds, dynamap in each room, Welch Allyn vital machines, wound vacs, temporary pacemakers, telemetry monitors, EKG machines, bladder scanners, and Doppler devices.
- Documentation System: Meditech
- Scheduling Requirements: Full-time hours required, including 3 weekend shifts per scheduling period.
- Floating Policy: Contract Nurses may be floated to any area where they have demonstrated competency.
- Patient Experience Requirements: Nurses must treat each patient with courtesy and respect and respond promptly to the call light. Nurses should use the patient's preferred name, make personal connections, involve patients in bedside shift reports, teach patients how to use their phones to call the nurse directly, and always inquire if there is anything else they can do before leaving the room.
Qualifications
- Experience Required: Candidates must have experience in Cardiac Telemetry or PCU/ICU settings. Ability to read and interpret EKGs and telemetry strips is essential.
- Advanced Skills: Experience with post-cardiac procedural care (e.g., ablations, cardiac catheterizations, Post Op Day 1 Open Heart, permanent pacemaker placements) is required. Candidates must be able to administer and titrate IV medications such as insulin, Cardizem, Cardene, and Amiodarone.
- Procedures Performed on Unit: IV insertions, NGT placement and maintenance, chest tube maintenance, temporary pacemakers, and Foley insertions.
- Certifications Required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS.
Work Environment
The work environment is characterized by a fast-paced atmosphere with both tenured and new staff members fostering a family-like culture. Many contract nurses have successfully transitioned into full-time employees, highlighting opportunities for long-term career development.
Dress Code
Uniform must consist of navy blue scrubs. Black scrub pants may be worn with a navy blue top.

This MRI department is amazing! The nurses there are awesome! My experience there was exceptional! The patient care was outstanding!!
Cons
The pay was the only thing that was lacking. But that is what it was! No regrets about working there! Also the housing situation was not great. But that has nothing to do with the facility!
