Position Overview
The Emergency Room Nurse (ER RN) position offers a dynamic work environment focused on providing high-quality care to patients in a fast-paced setting. The role involves working with a diverse patient population, including correctional patients, and requires strong teamwork and communication skills.
Job Details
- Unit: Emergency Room (ER)
- Shift Length: 12 hours
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Experience Required: 2 years
- Certifications Required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS
- Patient Ratios: 1:4 unless caring for ICU patients (1:2)
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Cerner
- Floating: Possible between multiple locations within the region
- Orientation: 2 shifts at the primary location and 1 shift at the other location
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts within a 4-week schedule (Friday/Saturday for nights and Saturday/Sunday for days)
- Holiday Requirement: 1 major holiday and 1 minor holiday
- Scrub Color: Navy blue (including scrub jackets and undershirts)
- Team Support: Access to Hospitalist or Intensivist and 24/7 support from Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy
Clinical Responsibilities
The Emergency Room Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. Common diagnoses include a broad range of emergency conditions, with a focus on adult and indigent populations. The role requires stability and transfer of more complex cases, including cardiac patients, to other facilities.
Qualifications
- Active RN license
- At least 2 years of relevant nursing experience in an emergency department or similar setting
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS
- Ability to maintain a positive team-oriented attitude
Location
This position is based in a metropolitan area that offers diverse opportunities and activities outside of work. The facilities are located within close proximity to each other, allowing for flexibility in case of floating between locations.
Note
This position must be the nurse's primary job, and the schedule will not accommodate other work commitments. Candidates should be prepared for a workload that averages 100 patient encounters per day.
