ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

We are seeking a qualified ICU Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic team in a busy Intensive Care Unit environment. The ICU RN will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and supporting patients with a variety of critical conditions.

Unit Information

• Unit: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
• Number of Beds: 8
• Patient Ratios: 1:1-2
• Electronic Medical Record: Cerner
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holidays: Rotate with core staff
• Scrub Color: Navy (undershirts must be navy, white, or black; scrub jackets are optional and must be navy)
• Telemetry: Yes, must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
• Ventilators: Experience with Gallileo and G5 ventilators required
• Staffing: No Nurse Aides in the ICU; RT and Pharmacy available 24/7
• Floating: Potential to float to other facilities within the region

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care for critically ill patients.
• Monitor and manage patient conditions, administering medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Conduct assessments and interpret diagnostic tests, including EKG readings.
• Support families and caregivers by providing education and updates on patient conditions.
• Participate in staff meetings and adhere to unit protocols and procedures.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of ICU experience required.
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS are required.
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills are vital.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and remain calm under pressure.

Work Schedule

This position involves a 12-hour night shift schedule, with a guaranteed average of 36 hours per week. The staff uses self-scheduling; however, the final schedule will be balanced by management. Extra shifts and overtime may be available.

Patient Population

Our ICU cares for a wide range of diagnoses, including:

• Stable CVA post TPA
• Respiratory failure
• Manual proning procedures
• COPD
• CHF
• DKA

Please note that CABG and neurological surgeries are not managed in this unit. A comprehensive orientation program of 1-2 days on the floor with a preceptor will be provided for newly hired staff.
