Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
• CPI/MOAB (Crisis Prevention Institute/Management of Aggressive Behavior)

Skills Required

• General Emergency Department Experience
• Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation
• IV Skills
• Basic ED Knowledge of Drips and Medication Administration
• Procedural Sedation
• Blood Administration
• TNK Administration (preferred)
• Cardiac Medications
• Recent EPIC Experience Required

Support on the Unit

• Emergency Room Technicians: Assisting with glucose checks, iStat, and splinting
• Charge Nurse: Rarely takes patient assignment
• Resource/Float Nurse
• Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7
• Emergency Department Educator
• Security Personnel: Present for safety 24/7
• House Supervisor: Available 24/7
• Social Work Services: Assigned to the Emergency Department 24/7
• Pharmacy: Available 24/7, assists with medication administration during codes

Charting System/Equipment

• Epic (recent experience required)
• Alaris
• Pyxis
• Central and Bedside Telemetry Monitoring

Orientation

• Day 1: New Employee Orientation (NEO), EPIC training if needed, introduction to educator, hours in mental health area, hours in front area
• Day 2: 12-hour shift with assigned preceptor
• Traveler Telemetry Competency Required: To be completed and passed prior to start

Scheduling

• Shifts:
  • Days/Mids: 0700, 1100
  • Mids/Nights: 1500, 1900
• Preferred weekly scheduling, but subject to change based on unit needs
• Weekend scheduling varies based on unit requirements
• Schedule available 3 weeks in advance, with notice given approximately 10 days prior to the start date
• Time Off Requests: Approved by Nurse Manager
• Holiday Expectations: Required to work 2 out of 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day
