Job Description

The Cardiovascular Technologist - H&V Specialist provides continuous, comprehensive care to adult and geriatric patients undergoing invasive cardiology, peripheral, and angiography procedures. The role requires specialized knowledge and skills to perform angiographic procedures and invasive vascular treatments, ensuring optimal image quality and adherence to standards of care. Care is culturally sensitive and age-specific, promoting partnership between patients, families, and healthcare teams.


Key Responsibilities

  • Recognize and report abnormal patient data and condition changes to physicians and charge nurses.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members using appropriate handoff methods to communicate patient physiological and psychological data.
  • Assess patient, family, and environment for safety risks and perform safety initiatives.
  • Provide individualized holistic patient and family education in coordination with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Apply critical thinking when reviewing physician orders, making referrals, and contacting other health professionals.
  • Respond skillfully and promptly to emergency situations.
  • Implement infection control measures and use protective equipment to prevent disease transmission and maintain safety.
  • Function as a scrub assistant during diagnostic and interventional procedures in the cath lab and angiography, adhering to sterile technique.
  • Set up sterile trays and specialized equipment according to procedure requirements.
  • Maintain hemostasis post-procedure using compression or closure devices and manage insertion site complications.
  • Maintain competency in arterial and venous sheath removal and groin management.
  • Follow radiation safety policies, including proper use of lead aprons, gloves, gonadal shielding, and dosimetry badges.
  • Screen females of childbearing age for possible pregnancy before procedures.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 1-2 years of experience in cardiovascular radiology or related field.
  • Strong understanding of cardiovascular and peripheral anatomy to support complex ablations and learning roles.
  • Commitment to meeting individual education and training requirements.
  • Willingness to participate in on-call coverage as needed.
  • High level of professionalism with the ability to build positive relationships with patients, staff, and physicians.
  • Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
