Job Opportunity: RN Medical/Surgical (Travel)
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Facility: Cleveland Medical Center
Hospital System: University Hospitals
Contract Length: 12 months
Job Description
- Provide care to adult medical/surgical inpatients, including orthopaedic, neuro-surgery, and level 1 trauma patients.
- Focus on zero-harm, patient safety, and quality care.
- Enhance patient experience through pain management, proactive rounding, and bedside handoff.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- BLS (American Heart Association only) – Required for clinical positions.
- RN License – Valid permanent license required; temporary licenses not accepted. Must be verified within 30 days of start and updated every 2 years with license renewal.
- NIHSS Certification – Required.
- ACLS (American Heart Association only) – Optional but preferred.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- MMR: Positive titers within last 15 years required; booster protocol applies if low titer.
- Varicella: Positive titers within last 15 years required; booster protocol applies if low titer.
- Hepatitis B: Proof of full series, partial series with signed declination, or positive titers within 15 years accepted.
- Tdap: Proof of vaccination within past 10 years required; declinations not accepted.
- COVID-19 Vaccine: Preferred but not required; medical or religious exemptions accepted with approval.
- Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct-Mar) or approved exemption.
- 2-Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot): Negative test within last 6 months required; if positive, clear chest x-ray and current TB questionnaire required.
- Fit Test: Completed within 1 year of start, updated annually.
Background & Employment Verification
- Criminal Background Check: Must be completed within 6 months prior to start, including SSN trace, county searches, national criminal sweep, and NSO. Written summary required for any hits.
- Ohio Fingerprints: Required for all Ohio residents (BCI&I check and FCRA-compliant national database criminal background check). Attestation allowed if fingerprints pending.
- Social Security Trace: If not included in background check, must be completed within 1 year of start.
- National Database Criminal Background Check: Required for Ohio residents.
- Employment Verification: Verification of employment within last 5 years through third-party required; attestations not allowed.
- Education Verification: Highest level of education verified; international education requires equivalency documentation.
- UHS I-9 Attestation: Proof of eligibility to work required.
Testing & Competency Requirements
- UHS Competency Exam: Must score at least 80%, completed within 1 year prior to start.
- UHS Core Competencies: Includes HIPAA, Joint Commission-NPSG, OSHA topics; 80% passing score required, completed within 1 year prior to start.
- UHS Skills Checklist: Clinical skill-specific checklist required within 1 year prior to start (initial hire only).
- Physical/Health Statement: Pre-employment physical exam within 1 year stating ability to work without restrictions.
- Drug Screen: 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start; instant drug screens not accepted.

- UHS Submission Packet: Resume including education and work history, 2 professional references within last 2 years, and completed job application.
- Driver’s License/State ID: Non-expired photo ID required.
- UHS Badge Photo: Headshot photo required.
- UHS Module Completion Certificate: Completion of safety and compliance training modules prior to clearance.
- Positive PPD: If applicable, chest x-ray within 5 years and annual TB questionnaire required.
