Description

Registered Nurse (OR RN) - Travel/Contract

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Facility: Ohio State University Hospital
Hospital System: Outside In
Contract Length: 17 weeks
Shift: Nights, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM (36 hours/week)


Overview

  • Work in a Level 1 Trauma 18-bed Operating Room.
  • Surgical specialties include General, Robotic, Laparoscopic, Trauma, Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Spine, Ophthalmology, ENT, Plastics, Burns, Urology, GYN, and Transplant surgeries.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care during surgical procedures.
  • Circulate and scrub, focusing on Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Spine, and General Surgery cases.
  • Collaborate closely with the surgical team.
  • Maintain patient records using EPIC.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of OR RN experience.
  • Experience in Level 1 trauma centers with extensive scrub experience.
  • EPIC proficiency.
  • BCLS certification required.

Preferred Experience

  • ENT, GU, Plastics, Burns specialties.

Certifications & Competencies

  • Required Certifications:

    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable).
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only.
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required for ER, ER OB, and ER Psych units.
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - Required for L&D, Post-Partum, and OB.
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - Facility-specific expiration rules apply.
    • HIPAA Safety Manual Acknowledgement - Annual requirement.
    • State RN License Verification within 30 days of start.
    • NURSYS Verification for RNs.
    • NIH Stroke Certification - Required for ER and Critical Care RNs.
    • Tech Cert Verification (for Surgical Technologists and Surgical Techs as applicable).
  • Competency Exams:

    • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start).
    • Unit-Specific Competency Exam.
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam - Required within 1 year of start and updated annually. Minimum passing score 76%.

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Proof of fingerprint completion (BCI/FBI) required for all candidates.
  • Background Acknowledgement form for subcontractors.
  • Dress Code and Hand Hygiene Policy must be reviewed and signed.
  • Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism Form required.
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Training Certificate required and must be updated annually.
  • Ethics and Compliance Policies must be reviewed and signed annually.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12).
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive. TB questionnaire required annually.
  • Immunizations or positive titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer or 3-vaccine series; declination acceptable)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions reviewed)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31). Mask required if declining.
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended.

Background & Compliance

  • 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide, sex offender, and MVR if applicable.
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start; must be completed under specific code (3701.881).
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring for Aya candidates.
  • Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership.

Education & Documentation

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN).
  • Employment application and skills checklist required.
  • Transcript or diploma verification as applicable.

This position is ideal for experienced OR Registered Nurses with trauma center experience seeking a travel/contract opportunity in a high-acuity Level 1 trauma hospital operating room setting.
