Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Facility: Ohio States Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital
Hospital System: Outside In


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: 3x12-hour night shifts
  • Schedule: Weekdays, some weekends, rotating holidays
  • Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) – Lower Acuity Cardiac (Cardiac experience preferred)
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:3
  • Contract Length: 17 weeks
  • Floating: Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity

Experience & Skills Required

  • Minimum 2 years of PCU experience
  • BCLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Skills: IV start, telemetry monitoring
  • EPIC experience required

Certifications & Compliance Requirements

  • ACLS (AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI acceptable)
  • BLS (AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI acceptable)
  • PALS required only for ER, ER OB, and ER Psych units
  • NRP required for Labor & Delivery, Post-Partum, and OB units
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification as applicable
  • HIPAA Safety Manual Acknowledgement (annual)
  • State nursing license verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification for RNs
  • NIH Stroke Certification required for ER and all Critical Care RNs
  • Unit-specific competency exams including:
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (must be passed within 1 year of start and updated annually)

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Proof of fingerprinting completion (BCI/FBI) required for all candidates
  • Background check: 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start
  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment
  • Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Training Certificate (updated annually)
  • Ethics and Compliance Policies acknowledgment (annual for new contracts)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
  • TB questionnaire required annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer
  • Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemption requires documentation
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, THC, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Additional Requirements

  • 2 professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Education accreditation confirmation for nursing degrees (must be from accredited programs)
  • Fingerprinting must be completed using specific codes and within 1 year of start; new fingerprinting required if break in service >90 days
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring for compliance

This position is ideal for experienced PCU RNs with strong cardiac skills, EPIC proficiency, and the ability to work night shifts in a dynamic hospital environment. Compliance with all certifications, health screenings, and facility-specific policies is mandatory.
