Registered Nurse - Vascular OR

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Facility: MUSC Health Charleston (Medical University of South Carolina)
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:30 AM - 7:00 PM), Monday-Friday (36 hours/week)
  • On-call: Yes, 5-8 calls per month including weekends and holidays
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
  • Skills: Must be able to scrub and circulate complex vascular cases
  • First-timers: Not preferred
  • License: South Carolina RN license or Multi-state RN license required at start of contract
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (AHA only)
    • ACLS (AHA only)
    • Radiation badge (provided by agency)
  • Local Radius Rule: 60 miles
  • Locals: Accepted on a case-by-case basis

Important Notes

  • Hurricane Season: June through November; travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time. Confirm availability before accepting assignments during peak months (August-September).
  • Facility may call off traveler for 1 shift per 2-week pay period.

Required Documentation & Compliance

Licensure & Certifications

  • Active SC RN license or multi-state compact license
  • BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA only)
  • Radiation badge required for OR and vascular roles
  • NURSYS verification required
  • Other certifications as applicable (PALS, TNCC, NIH Stroke, CHEMO) depending on unit

Health & Immunizations

  • Physical exam updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 90 days prior to start (specific mask models required)
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form
  • Negative TB test (T-Spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series required
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
  • Drug screening: 10-panel within 90 days
  • Flu vaccine required during flu season or approved exemption
  • COVID-19 vaccine highly preferred; declination form accepted

Background & Employment Verification

  • Annual background check covering last 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Proof of 2 clinical references
  • Complete employment application including all PTO, contract assignments, and agency names
  • Verification of last 3 clinical employers

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Completion of orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
  • Clear, passport-style photo for badge (frontal view, business casual attire)
  • Upload vaccination records and required documents into facility system prior to start
  • Radiation badge process may take 5-7 days; candidates cannot start without it
  • Color blindness test required prior to start
