Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Facility: James Cancer Hospital (Outside In Hospital System)
Specialty: Oncology / Medical-Surgical / Telemetry
Job Details
- Contract Length: Up to 16 weeks (Winter job)
- Shift: 12-hour day/night rotating shifts (days, nights, or combination)
- Schedule: No set schedule or weekends; facility determines schedule and may require working every weekend
- Time Off: Maximum 1-2 days requested time off (RTO); limited holiday time off (max 1 of 3 major holidays)
- Start Date Flexibility: Preference for end dates 1/3, 1/10, or 1/17 to cover holidays
Unit & Patient Population
Unit: Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) - Oncology (14 & 15W James)
Patient Diagnoses Include:
- Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)
- Acute Myeloid Leukemia (Adult)
- Amyloidosis
- Aplastic Anemia
- Chronic Leukemia (CLL, Myeloid)
- Hodgkin's Lymphoma
- Multiple Myeloma
- Myelodysplastic Syndrome
- Myeloproliferative Disorders
- Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
Special Procedures:
- Autologous, Syngeneic, and Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplants
- CAR-T Therapy
Experience & Skills Required
- Minimum 1 year experience in Medical-Surgical (MS) and Oncology
- Skills:
- Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Feeding tube care and management
- Blood product administration
- Central line blood draws
- Peripheral and PICC line care/management
- Nasal cannula oxygen administration
Certifications Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Certification (required)
- Oncology Certified (preferred)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (preferred)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid Ohio nursing license or compact license with residency declaration
- Background check (7-year criminal history) and fingerprinting (BCI & FBI) required
- Drug screening (10-panel) within 3 months of start
- Immunizations and health documents including:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Flu vaccination or declination during flu season
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Annual compliance training including Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training
- Competency exams including medication, unit-specific, and dysrhythmia/EKG exam (must be within 1 year and updated annually)
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be flexible with scheduling and able to work variable shifts and weekends
- Limited time off during contract, especially around holidays
- Facility requires strict adherence to dress code and hand hygiene policies
- Education must be from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN)
- Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or supervisor
This position is ideal for experienced oncology nurses with strong medical-surgical and telemetry skills who are comfortable with a flexible, rotating schedule in a high-acuity transplant and oncology setting.
