Contract Length: Up to 16 weeks (Winter Job, with preferred end dates around early to mid-January for holiday coverage)
Job Description
- Unit: Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) - Oncology (14 & 15W James)
- Shift: 12-hour Day/Night rotating shifts (days, nights, or combination based on department needs)
- Schedule: No fixed schedule or weekends; facility-determined schedule may include working every weekend. Must be flexible.
- Time Off: Maximum 1-2 days requested time off (RTO); limited holiday time off (max 1 of 3 major holidays off). No RTO within first 2 weeks.
Experience & Skills Required
- Minimum 1 year experience in Medical-Surgical (MS) and Oncology nursing.
- Oncology and chemotherapy certification required.
- Skills in telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, use of rapid response teams.
- Experience with feeding tube care, blood product administration, central and peripheral line management, PICC line management, nasal cannula administration.

- Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)
- Acute Myeloid Leukemia (Adult)
- Amyloidosis
- Aplastic Anemia
- Chronic Leukemia (including CLL and Myeloid Leukemia)
- Hodgkin's Lymphoma
- Multiple Myeloma
- Myelodysplastic Syndrome
- Myeloproliferative Disorders
- Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
Special Procedures / Unit Details
- Autologous Transplants (patient’s own stem cells)
- Syngeneic Transplants (stem cells from identical twin)
- Allogeneic Transplants (stem cells from sibling, parent, or unrelated donor)
- CAR-T Therapy
Certifications Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Certification
- Oncology Certified (preferred)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Licensure: Valid RN license with verification within 30 days of start.
- Background Check: 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific requirements).
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Immunizations: Tdap, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B (titer or vaccine series), Flu vaccine or declination during flu season.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start.
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam.
- Unit-specific competency exam.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (must be within 1 year of start and updated annually).
- Other:
- Completion of Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training annually.
- Compliance with dress code and hand hygiene policies.
- Background and employment history verification including references and education accreditation confirmation.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be flexible with scheduling and able to work rotating shifts without guaranteed fixed weekends off.
- Facility prioritizes candidates who can cover holiday periods (early to mid-January).
- Fingerprinting and background checks are time-sensitive and must be completed according to Ohio State requirements.
- Candidates must complete all required documentation and certifications prior to or shortly after start date.
This position is ideal for experienced oncology RNs with BMT and chemotherapy certification looking for a travel contract in a specialized cancer hospital setting with complex patient care needs.
