Job Description
- Adult and pediatric burn trauma surgical ICU RN role
- Primary RN Care model
- Nursing care ratios:
- 1:2 for critical care patients
- 1:1 for burn trauma code 1 admissions, high acuity, and post-operative patients
- Responsibilities include:
- Invasive hemodynamic monitoring (at least every 1 hour)
- IV drip titration
- Nurse-driven burn fluid resuscitation following Parkland formula
- Ventilator management
- Continuous venovenous hemofiltration (CVVH)
- Hourly pulse and flap doppler checks
- Initial debridement and dressing changes
- Conscious sedation
- Surgical recovery
- Epidural pump management
Required Certifications and Licenses
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- ACLS (American Heart Association)
- Current RN license with Nursys verification within 30 days prior to start
- License/Certificate primary source verification within 30 days prior to start
- Ascension Pharmacology Exam (minimum 80%, updated every 3 years)
- Ascension Specialty Exam (minimum 80%, updated every 3 years)
- Ascension Color Vision test (updated every 3 years)
- Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; minimum 80%, updated yearly)
- NIH Certification (Group A yearly, Groups B-F every 2 years)
- Ascension EKG Exam (minimum 80%, updated as per latest edition)
- Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation
- Ascension Badge Photo (professional headshot with white or blue background)
Health and Safety Requirements
- MMR: Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted)
- Fit Test: Required for all travelers, preferred prior to start (annual update)
- Hepatitis B: Vaccination series completion or signed declination
- Influenza Vaccine: Optional, but mask required if declined during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
- TB Screening: Positive IGRA or PPD results, negative chest X-ray within 1 year, and annual TB questionnaire
- Health Statement: Statement of good health or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
- 2 Step PPD or IGRA within 90 days prior to start
- Varicella: Proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider (no declinations accepted)
- Tdap: Valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted)
- Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen: Completed within 30 days prior to start, updated annually
Professional and Background Requirements
- Ascension Profile (resume or professional profile)
- At least two professional references prior to first assignment
- Criminal Background Check including Social Security Trace, Employment Verification, OIG Search, National Sex Offender, and others (within 30 days prior to start, updated annually)
- EPLS (Excluded Parties List System) check within 90 days prior to start
- Ascension Skills Checklist (clinical skills competency, updated annually)
- Education Verification relevant to clinical work (within 90 days prior to start)
- Confirmation of Assignment documentation upon initial assignment and updates with extensions
- Employment Verification for past 7 years (updated annually)
Additional Notes
- Nursys verification required within 30 days prior to start; disciplinary actions require FACIS Questionnaire
- Pharmacology and specialty exams allow only two attempts
- Flu vaccine exemptions accepted with mask requirement during flu season
- TB questionnaire must be updated annually
- Driver’s license/state ID must be current and valid (submission required)
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with burn trauma and surgical ICU expertise, comfortable with high acuity patients and advanced critical care nursing skills.
