Travel RN Step Down Nurse - Waco, Texas

Facility: TXWAC Asc Providence (Ascension Health)
Employment Type: Travel

Job Requirements & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of nursing experience
  • Experience with:
    • HFNC (High Flow Nasal Cannula)
    • BIPAP
    • Stable GTT management
    • Post-op day 1 CABG/AVR/MVR
    • Cardiovascular & vascular cases including AAA repair, lobectomy, CEA
    • Cardiac events: NSTEMI, STEMI, ACS, pacers
    • Critical conditions: sepsis, gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB), post DKA, respiratory failure, tracheostomies

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • BLS (American Heart Association)
  • ACLS (American Heart Association)
  • Valid nursing license with Nursys verification within 30 days prior to start
  • License/Certificate primary source verification within 30 days prior to start
  • Driver’s License/State ID (must be current and valid)

Required Exams & Competencies

  • Ascension Specialty Exam (passing minimum 80%)
  • Ascension Color Vision Test (updated every 3 years)
  • Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA topics; minimum 80% score)
  • NIH Certification (updated yearly or every 2 years depending on group)
  • Ascension EKG Exam (passing minimum 80%)
  • Ascension Epic Test-Out (clinical documentation system proficiency)
  • Ascension Skills Checklist (clinical skills competency, updated annually)
  • Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen (within 30 days prior to start, updated annually)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • MMR: Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted)
  • Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination
  • Influenza Vaccine: Recommended during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); declinations accepted with mask requirement
  • Positive PPD or IGRA with negative chest X-ray and annual TB questionnaire
  • 2 Step PPD or IGRA within required timeframes
  • Varicella: Proof of immunity or two vaccine doses (no declinations accepted)
  • Tdap: Valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted)
  • Fit Test for respiratory protection (updated annually)

Onboarding & Professional Requirements

  • Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation
  • Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding (completed onsite)
  • Ascension Nova StatStrip training
  • Ascension Confirmation of Assignment documentation
  • Ascension Criminal Background Check (7-year search including SSN trace, OIG, National Sex Offender)
  • Ascension EPLS (Excluded Parties List System) check
  • Ascension Education Verification (within 90 days of start)
  • Ascension Employment Verification (7 years, updated annually)
  • At least two professional references prior to first assignment
  • Resume/Profile submission

Additional Notes

  • Must complete all required documentation and exams prior to or at onboarding
  • Some optional items include Ascension Unit Specific Checklist and Badge Photo
  • Flu vaccine exemptions require mask wearing during flu season
  • Post-assignment evaluations and exit surveys may be required

This position is ideal for experienced step-down nurses comfortable with complex cardiovascular and critical care patients, who meet Ascension Health’s rigorous credentialing and compliance standards.
