Job Description
- Minimum 18 months Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU experience required
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- ICU status: 1:1 or 1:2
- Stepdown/non-ICU overflow unit: 1:3
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- PALS
- ACLS (American Heart Association)
Required Credentials & Compliance
Certifications
- BLS (AHA required)
- PALS
- ACLS (AHA required)
- NIH Certification (updated yearly or every 2 years depending on group)
Licenses & Verifications
- Current nursing license with primary source verification within 30 days prior to assignment start
- Nursys verification within 30 days prior to start
- Driver’s License/State ID (valid, not expired, matching address requirements)
- Education verification relevant to clinical work (within 90 days of start)
- Employment verification (7 years, updated annually)
- Criminal background check including Social Security Trace, OIG Search, National Sex Offender, etc. (within 30 days prior to assignment)
- EPLS check (within 90 days prior to start)
Testing & Exams
- Ascension Specialty Exam (minimum 80% passing score, updated every 3 years)
- Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA topics; minimum 80% score, updated yearly)
- Ascension EKG Exam (minimum 80% passing score)
- Ascension Cerner Test-Out
- Ascension Skills Checklist (clinical skills, completed within 1 year of start, updated annually)
- 12 Panel Drug Screen (within 30 days prior to start, updated annually)
Health & Immunizations
- MMR: Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted)
- Varicella: Documented proof of two vaccines, serological immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider (no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination
- Influenza Vaccine: Recommended during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); declinations accepted with mask requirement
- Tdap: Valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted)
- TB Screening: Positive IGRA or PPD results, negative chest X-ray within 1 year, and annual TB questionnaire
- Fit Test: Required annually, preferred prior to start (specific mask types required in some states)
- Health Statement: Statement of good health or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
Onboarding Requirements
- Completion of Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding (onsite)
- Completion of Ascension Onboarding Education Attestation
- Ascension Nova StatStrip pre-hire modules
- Ascension Confirmation of Assignment documentation
- Ascension 2 Professional References (at least two)
- Ascension Profile (resume or professional profile)
Additional Information
- Must complete all required exams and certifications with passing scores as specified
- Some optional checklists and surveys may be requested but are not mandatory for onboarding
- Compliance with all Ascension Health policies and credentialing requirements is mandatory for assignment clearance
