Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity
Location: Columbus, Ohio

Unit & Patient Population
- New Tower Opening / 15E James
- Acute Leukemia and Hematology
- Patient Age Group: Adults, Geriatrics
- Primarily care for newly diagnosed acute leukemia patients
Schedule & Orientation
- 12 Hour Night Shifts (Day/Night option available)
- No set/blocked scheduling; self-schedule requests accepted before finalizing
- Weekends: Variable based on unit needs
- Orientation:
- Week 1: Monday-Friday day shift
- Week 2: 36 hours on-unit orientation with a preceptor
Experience & Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
- First-time travelers: Not accepted
Staffing Ratios
- Goal: 1:4, can be 1:5
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
Certifications Preferred
- ONS Chemo Certification (not required)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
Skills & Competencies Required
- Medical-Surgical / Telemetry experience
- Telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Feeding tube care and management
- IV therapy and phlebotomy
- Blood product administration
- Central line blood draws
- Peripheral line care/management
- PICC line management
- Starting IVs
- Computerized charting experience with EPIC
Special Focus Areas
- Heavy emphasis on infection prevention protocols
- Patient falls prevention
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year stating good health and free of contagious disease
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- COVID-19 vaccine: Not required but strongly recommended
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
Background & Licensing
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start (specific Ohio codes apply)
- Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprints are pending
- State nursing license verification required within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification required for RNs
- Education accreditation confirmation required (accredited nursing program)
- 2 professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)
Competency Exams
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exam required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with remediation process if failed)
Policies & Documentation
- Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required
- Confidential Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and Compliance Reporting training and acknowledgment required
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with telemetry and hematology/oncology experience who are comfortable with flexible scheduling and working night shifts in a specialized acute leukemia unit.
