Description
Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse – Emergency Department (Oncology Pod)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in the Oncology Pod Emergency Department with a 12-hour day/night rotating schedule.
- Rotations may include days, nights, or a combination based on department needs.
- Shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks but are subject to staffing priorities.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience required.
- Oncology experience preferred but not mandatory.
- EPIC electronic health record experience required.
Certifications Required
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Skills Required
- Proficient in IV starts.
- Experience with telemetry monitoring.
Patient Ratio
- 1 nurse to 4 patients (1:4).
Time Off
- Request Time Off (RTO) must be submitted at the time of application.
- Up to 7 consecutive days off may be granted at facility discretion for contracts of 14 weeks.
Compliance & Background Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide check, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record if driving is required.
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start, with specific Ohio codes for processing.
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring.
- Education accreditation verification from accredited nursing programs (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, CASN).
- Transcript or diploma verification required.
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption requires documentation)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended.
Competency & Testing
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required prior to start.
- Unit-specific competency exam required.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and annually thereafter (minimum passing score 76%). Remediation process available for failed attempts.
Additional Requirements
- 2 professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership.
- Employment application required, including education details for nursing candidates.
- Skills checklist required.
- Annual acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, compliance, and fraud/waste/abuse policies.
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually.
Notes on Scheduling & Facility Policies
- Facility discretion on granting time off and shift assignments.
- Candidates must comply with all background, health, and certification requirements prior to start.
- Fingerprinting and background checks are time-sensitive and must follow specific Ohio state codes and procedures.
This position is ideal for experienced ED nurses comfortable with rotating shifts and working in an oncology emergency setting, who meet the certification and compliance requirements listed above.
