Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Job Description

• Work in the Oncology Pod Emergency Department with a 12-hour day/night rotating schedule.
• Rotations may include days, nights, or a combination based on department needs.
• Shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks but are subject to staffing priorities.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience required.
• Oncology experience preferred but not mandatory.
• EPIC electronic health record experience required.

Certifications Required

• BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Skills Required

• Proficient in IV starts.
• Experience with telemetry monitoring.

Patient Ratio

• 1 nurse to 4 patients (1:4).

Time Off

• Request Time Off (RTO) must be submitted at the time of application.
• Up to 7 consecutive days off may be granted at facility discretion for contracts of 14 weeks.

Compliance & Background Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide check, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle record if driving is required.
• FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start, with specific Ohio codes for processing.
• Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start.
• Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring.
• Education accreditation verification from accredited nursing programs (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, CASN).
• Transcript or diploma verification required.
• Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene).
• Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
  • TB questionnaire annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
  • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption requires documentation)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
• COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended.

Competency & Testing

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required prior to start.
• Unit-specific competency exam required.
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and annually thereafter (minimum passing score 76%). Remediation process available for failed attempts.

Additional Requirements

• 2 professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership.
• Employment application required, including education details for nursing candidates.
• Skills checklist required.
• Annual acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, compliance, and fraud/waste/abuse policies.
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually.

• Fingerprinting and background checks are time-sensitive and must follow specific Ohio state codes and procedures.
