Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Canton, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse (Emergency Department)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Requirements
- Minimum 18 months recent Emergency Department (ED) experience (must be permanent ED experience prior to travel)
- Must hold a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license
- Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC (all must be current and in hand)
- Must have Epic electronic health record experience
- One recent reference required from a manager, ANM, supervisor, or director in the specialty
- Must work at least every other holiday
- ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate test must be passed during orientation
Certifications & Competencies
- Required Certifications:
- ACLS (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable)
- BLS (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable)
- PALS (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable)
- TNCC (required for ER)
- State License Primary Source Verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS Verification within 30 days of start
- NIH Stroke Certification (preferred but not required for some units)
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) during orientation (not required for legacy candidates with less than 6-month gap)
- Unit-Specific Competency Exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
Experience & References
- Two references required from employment within one year of start, from a Manager, ANM, Supervisor, Charge Nurse, or Director (co-worker references not accepted)
- Employment application must include at least 3 years prior work history with 2 years in acute care and similar area to assignment
Background Checks & Screening
- Background check required prior to start, including:
- FCRA compliant 7-year search (SSN Trace, Counties, States, Nationwide, National Sex Offender, OFAC, FACIS Level 3, Education Verification)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM monthly checks
- HHS/OIG monthly checks
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start and updated annually
- Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract; facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite
- Education verification required for all candidates
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including assessment of ability to perform essential job functions, eye exam, and color-blind testing (for new candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later)
- Drug testing: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Fit Mask test (N95) required within 12 months of start and updated annually
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine required every 10 years (religious/medical exemptions reviewed case-by-case)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months of start, updated annually
- TB Questionnaire required annually if history of positive TB
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer required; booster if titers negative/equivocal
- Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination documentation required
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; booster if titers negative/equivocal
- Seasonal Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31)
Orientation & Training
- Completion of online onboarding and training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome; video must be watched before test)
- Modules typically take multiple days and must be completed before clearance to start
- SafeMedicate prep materials provided for review before pass/fail exam during orientation
- Photo for badge required (headshot, shoulders up, white background)
- Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing required for all nursing positions except OR
Additional Notes
- Candidates must carry a government-issued photo ID while on assignment
- Traveler must be prepared to complete competency exams and pass required tests during orientation
- Candidates with gaps in employment longer than 40 days may need to update physical exam, chest X-ray, eye exam, and color-blind exam
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific documentation and credentialing requirements prior to start
This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurses licensed in Ohio or compact states, with strong clinical skills, current certifications, and the ability to meet rigorous onboarding and compliance standards.
