IR Tech Travel Assignment - Boston, MA

Position Overview

  • Role: Interventional Radiology (IR) Technologist
  • Location: Boston, Massachusetts
  • Facility: Level I Trauma Certified & Stroke Center, 415-bed hospital
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shifts: 40 hours per week, either 4x10-hour shifts or 5x8-hour shifts (daytime)
  • Call Requirement: Rotating call; weekend call every 5th-8th weekend, variable weekday call shifts (Monday-Thursday count). Response time ideally 30 minutes, max 45 minutes.
  • Holidays: None required at this time

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • ARRT certification
  • Massachusetts state license
  • BLS certification

Work Environment & Team

  • IR Suite and Hybrid OR for Vascular Surgery with 3 IR rooms (Siemens Biplane, Siemens, GE) and 1 Hybrid room (Phillips)
  • Staff includes 6-8 IR techs (techs respond in OR, RNs do not), and 4-8 RNs when fully staffed
  • Cardiologists in-house during the day; on-call after hours
  • Radiologic Technologists staffed 6am-7:30pm; on-call after hours
  • Collaborative, tight-knit team culture with strong communication and teaching focus

Orientation

  • Floor-specific orientation with a preceptor
  • Typically 1 week, sometimes up to 2 weeks
  • Traveler will be oriented to call duties after approximately 1 month of independent work

Typical Caseload & Procedures

  • Average 12-20 cases per day
  • Common cases include:
    • Central venous catheters
    • Paracentesis/thoracentesis
    • GI tube management
    • Fistulagram
    • GI bleeds
    • Y-90 treatments
  • Neuro IR cases: diagnostic cerebral angiograms, stroke interventions including thrombectomies
  • Vascular surgery cases: EVAR, TEVAR, lower extremity angiography/interventions
  • High-acuity patients including those with LVADs, ECMO, IMPELLA, PE thrombectomy, TIPS, stroke, aortic ruptures

Candidate Requirements & Preferences

  • Experience in IR and Neuro IR (stroke) procedures required
  • Familiarity with EPIC, Siemens, GE, and Phillips equipment preferred
  • Must be comfortable speaking up and asking questions; open to learning and teaching environment
  • Scrubs provided
