Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position - Columbus, Ohio

Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Location: Columbus, Ohio
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM (rotating weeknights, weekends, and holidays)
  • Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) preferred; will consider Medical-Surgical RN
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:3-4
  • Floating: Required to float to different units within the hospital system as needed

Experience & Skills Required

  • Minimum 2 years of PCU or Med-Surg nursing experience
  • EPIC electronic medical record experience required
  • ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Certification required
  • Previous travel nursing experience preferred

Certifications & Competencies

  • Required Certifications:
    • ACLS (American Heart Association Instructor/Provider or RQI)
    • BLS (American Heart Association Instructor/Provider or RQI)
    • NIH Stroke Certification (required for ER and all critical care RNs)
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
    • Unit-specific Competency Exam
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required within 1 year of start and annually thereafter; minimum passing score 76%)
  • Other Certifications (if applicable):
    • PALS (for ER, ER OB, ER Psych)
    • NRP (for Labor & Delivery, Post-Partum, OB)
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - follows extended expiration policy

Licensure & Verification

  • State nursing license verification required within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required for RNs
  • Residency Declaration Form required if using a compact license from outside Ohio

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
  • Education accreditation verification from recognized nursing accrediting bodies (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, CASN)
  • Transcript or diploma verification required
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) or chest x-ray if positive, within 1 year of start
  • TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test renewal
  • Adult Tdap vaccination (after age 11/12)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions reviewed case-by-case
  • Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series; declination accepted
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); decliners must wear a mask
  • COVID-19 vaccine not required but strongly recommended

Additional Requirements

  • 2 professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement
  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy review and signature required for contracts signed 5/19/25 and beyond

This position requires flexibility with rotating shifts and floating to various units, strong critical care skills, and compliance with extensive credentialing, background, and health requirements specific to Ohio and the hospital system.
