Job Opportunity: RN PICU - Travel Position

Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Facility: ININD St Vincent Indpls Acute (Ascension Health)
Specialty: RN PICU (Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit)

Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in a new and specialized Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) caring for cardiac patients pre- and post-operation.
  • Flexible scheduling to accommodate surgical cases, including hybrid day and night shifts.
  • Minimum availability: 24 hours per week, every other weekend, holidays, and on-call willingness.
  • May float to PICU, Pediatrics, and NICU as needed.

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - Must be AHA certified.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Must be AHA certified.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA/American Academy of Pediatrics certification preferred; NRP Advanced required.
  • Nursys Verification - Within 30 days prior to start; disciplinary actions require additional documentation.
  • Current Nursing License - Primary source verification within 30 days prior to start.
  • Driver's License/State ID - Must be valid and match address requirements.

Required Exams & Competencies

  • Ascension Pharmacology Exam - Must be completed prior to start and updated every 3 years (minimum 80% score).
  • Ascension Specialty Exam - Completed prior to first assignment and updated every 3 years (minimum 80% or national benchmark).
  • Ascension Color Vision Test - Completed prior to start and updated every 3 years.
  • Ascension Core Competencies - Includes HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; completed within a year of start and updated yearly (minimum 80% score).
  • NIH Certification - Group A updated yearly; Groups B-F every 2 years.
  • Ascension Safe Sleep Training
  • Ascension EKG Exam - Must be completed with a passing score of at least 80%.
  • Ascension Skills Checklist - Clinical skills checklist completed within one year of start and updated annually.

Onboarding & Professional Requirements

  • Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation
  • Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding - Completed onsite.
  • Ascension Badge Photo - Forward-facing headshot with white or blue background, no alterations.
  • Ascension Profile (Resume)
  • Ascension 2 Professional References - At least two professional references required.
  • Ascension Criminal Background Check - Includes Social Security Trace, Employment Verification, OIG Search, National Sex Offender check; updated annually or after breaks in service.
  • Ascension EPLS (Excluded Parties List System) Check - Run within 90 days of start and rerun if break in service >90 days.
  • Ascension Education Verification - Verification of education relevant to clinical work within 90 days of start.
  • Ascension Confirmation of Assignment - Provided upon initial assignment and updates with extensions.
  • Ascension Employment Verification - Third-party verification for past 7 years; updated annually or after breaks in service.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - Documented proof of two vaccines or positive titer; no declinations accepted.
  • Hepatitis B - Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination.
  • Varicella - Proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider; no declinations accepted.
  • Tdap - Valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted.
  • Influenza Vaccine - Recommended for flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); exemptions accepted with mask requirement.
  • Fit Test - Required for all travelers; preferred prior to start, can be completed onsite; updated annually.
  • Positive PPD / Negative Chest X-Ray and Annual TB Questionnaire - Required documentation for TB screening; updated annually.
  • 2 Step PPD OR IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) - Required within specified timeframes prior to start; updated annually.
  • Health Statement - Statement of good health or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually.
  • Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen - Completed within 30 days prior to start and updated annually; includes testing for 12 specified substances.

Additional Notes

  • Flexibility in scheduling and willingness to float to related units (PICU, Peds, NICU) is required.
  • Must be able to work hybrid shifts (days and nights).
  • Commitment to every other weekend, holidays, and on-call availability is expected.
